P.F. Dejean is the author of the original taxon.

The type species is Saperda alboguttata Megerle, 1802.

Apomecyna (Apomecyna) Dejean, 1821 is the full name of the group-subgenus in the taxonomic classification system.

Apomecyna (Apomecyna) has 72 species plus 16 non-nominal subspecies. The subgenus is the nominal subdivision of Apomecyna, genus ranked in the Apomecynini tribe of Lamiinae.
