The type species is Cerambyx splendidus Fabricius, 1793.

Tetraophthalmus (Tetraophthalmus) Dejean, 1835 is the full name of the group-subgenus in the taxonomic classification system.

Tetraophthalmus (Tetraophthalmus) has 52 species and subspecies (43 species plus 9 non-nominal subspecies). The subgenus is the nominal subdivision of Tetraophthalmus, genus ranked in the Astathini tribe of Lamiinae.
