G. Quedenfeldt is the author of the original taxon.

The type specimen used for original description is cited from R. D. Congo.

Pterolophia (Pterolophia) spinifera spinifera (Quedenfeldt, 1888) is the full name of the group-subspecies in the taxonomic classification system.

The group is the nominal subdivision of Pterolophia spinifera, species combined with the genus Pterolophia ranked in the tribe Pteropliini.
