L.A. Chevrolat is the author of the original taxon.

The type specimen used for original description is cited from Vieux Calabar.

Pseudhammus (Litigiosus) oculifrons oculifrons (Chevrolat, 1856) is the full name of the group-subspecies in the taxonomic classification system.

The group is the nominal subdivision of Pseudhammus oculifrons, species combined with the genus Pseudhammus ranked in the tribe Lamiini.
