L.A. Chevrolat is the author of the original taxon.

The type specimen used for original description is cited from Vieux Calabar.

Pseudhammus (Litigiosus) oculifrons (Chevrolat, 1856) is the full name of the group-species in the taxonomic classification system.

The species divided into 3 subspecies, is combined with the genus Pseudhammus ranked in the tribe Lamiini.
