C. Aurivillius is the author of the original taxon.

The type specimen used for original description is cited from Botswana.

Prosopocera (Alphitopola) wahlbergi wahlbergi (Aurivillius, 1891) is the full name of the group-subspecies in the taxonomic classification system.

The group is the nominal subdivision of Prosopocera wahlbergi, species combined with the Prosopocera genus ranked in the Prosopocerini tribe of Lamiinae.
