Galileo M. H. M. & Martins U. R. are the authors of the original taxon.

The type specimen used for original description comes from Brazil, Mato Grosso.

Phaula splendida (Galileo & Martins, 1987) is the full name of the group-species in the taxonomic classification system.

The species is combined with the Phaula genus ranked in the Aerenicini tribe of Lamiinae.
