The type specimen used for original description comes from Malayan Peninsula, West Malaysia.

Glenea (Glenea) scalaris Thomson, 1865 is the full name of the group-species in the taxonomic classification system.

The species divided into 2 subspecies, is combined with the Glenea genus ranked in the Saperdini tribe of Lamiinae.
