The type species is Frea maculicornis Thomson, 1858.

Frea (Frea) Thomson, 1858 is the full name of the group-subgenus in the taxonomic classification system.

Frea (Frea) has 47 species plus 3 non-nominal subspecies. The subgenus is the nominal subdivision of Frea, genus ranked in the Crossotini tribe of Lamiinae.
