O. I. Fahraeus is the author of the original taxon.

The type specimen used for original description comes from South Africa, Cap.

Dichostates lignarius lacunosus Fahraeus, 1873 is the full name of the group-subspecies in the taxonomic classification system.

The group is a subdivision of Dichostates lignarius, species combined with the Dichostates genus ranked in the Crossotini tribe of Lamiinae.
