L. Gyllenhal is the author of the original taxon.

The type specimen used for original description comes from Germany.

Agapanthia (Homoblephara) maculicornis (Gyllenhal, 1817) is the full name of the group-species in the taxonomic classification system.

The species divided into 2 subspecies, is combined with the Agapanthia genus ranked in the Agapanthiini tribe of Lamiinae.
