Tavakilian G. L. & Penaherrera-Leiva A.Y. are the authors of the original taxon.

The type specimen used for original description comes from Nicaragua, Chontales.

Penaherreraus batesi (Tavakilian & Penaherrera-Leiva, 2003) is the full name of the group-species in the taxonomic classification system.

The species is combined with the Penaherreraus genus ranked in the Acanthoderini tribe of Lamiinae.
