The type specimen used for original description comes from Bolivia, Santa Cruz.

Hippopsis acuminata (Galileo & Martins, 2006) is the full name of the group-species in the taxonomic classification system.

The species is combined with the Hippopsis genus ranked in the Agapanthiini tribe of Lamiinae.
