L. Fairmaire is the author of the original taxon.

The type specimen used for original description comes from Tanzania, Zanguebar.

Dichostates compactus Fairmaire, 1887 is the full name of the group-species in the taxonomic classification system.

The species divided into 2 subspecies, is combined with the Dichostates genus ranked in the Crossotini tribe of Lamiinae.
