The type specimen used for original description comes from Costa Rica, Guanacaste.

Cyrtinus umbus Martins & Galileo, 2009 is the full name of the group-species in the taxonomic classification system.

The species is combined with the Cyrtinus genus ranked in the Cyrtinini tribe of Lamiinae.
