The type specimen used for original description comes from Kazakhstan, Asian Kazakhstan.

Agapanthia (Epoptes) shovkuni Shapovalov, 2009 is the full name of the group-species in the taxonomic classification system.

The species is combined with the Agapanthia genus ranked in the Agapanthiini tribe of Lamiinae.
