H.W. Bates is the author of the original taxon.

The type specimen used for original description is cited from Escuintla.

Leptostylus laevicauda laevicauda Bates, 1880 is the full name of the group-subspecies in the taxonomic classification system.

The group is the nominal subdivision of Leptostylus laevicauda, species combined with the Leptostylus genus ranked in the Acanthocinini tribe of Lamiinae.
