The type specimen used for original description comes from Sumatra Is., Sumatra.

Glenea (Grossoglenea) grandis Schwarzer, 1929 is the full name of the group-species in the taxonomic classification system.

The species is combined with the Glenea genus ranked in the Saperdini tribe of Lamiinae.
