H. W. Bates is the author of the original taxon.

The type specimen used for original description comes from Mexico, Veracruz.

Drycothaea stictica lepidiota (Bates, 1885) is the full name of the group-subspecies in the taxonomic classification system.

The group is a subdivision of Drycothaea stictica, species combined with the Drycothaea genus ranked in the Calliini tribe of Lamiinae.
