The type specimen used for original description comes from Costa Rica, Cartago.

Cotysomerida lampyroides Martins & Galileo, 2009 is the full name of the group-species in the taxonomic classification system.

The species is combined with the Cotysomerida genus ranked in the Hemilophini tribe of Lamiinae.
