The type specimen used for original description comes from Costa Rica, Heredia.

Abanycha pectoralis Martins & Galileo, 2004 is the full name of the group-species in the taxonomic classification system.

The species is combined with the Abanycha genus ranked in the Hemilophini tribe of Lamiinae.
